LOVE: Cosmic FX Collection

Now I'm not a sucker for nailpolish in general, especially expensive ones! BUT... have you seen ORLY's Cosmic FX Collection? I need all of them!!!

The collection consists of 6 outer space inspired colours. Since I love Astronomy and the cosmos, this collection is perfect for me. My favourite one is "Space Cadet".

I bought the deep purple one called "Out of This World" during the semi-annual sale, but strangely the polish was not discounted as I paid $48 for it.

Prom Perfect

Prom time is upon us! Well not everyone, just the graduating high school kids. I remember my proms - plural because I had two of them. One was when I graduated form 5 and the second was when I graduated form 6, same school lol. I wasn't even into makeup and that sort of thing when I had my prom, so I regretted not looking my best :( I knew a few things but, it was only until after high school I got into beauty.

I would do things a lot differently if I had the chance to go to a (semi)formal dance again! Such as...

1) Wear a moisturizer without SPF because the chemicals in sunscreen make you face look paler or white in flash photography.

2) Take some photos while it's still bright outside, in the afternoon before the sun goes down! You won't have to use flash because it can make you look grosser sometimes.

3) Do your own hair! It's cheaper than going to a salon and you control how the result comes out. I went to a salon to get 'loose curls' and ended up with a lot of curls, and because the girl put so much hairspray in, it was hard to loosen them up. I didn't like it at all and it was a waste of money. I would go with Kim Kardashian's hairstyle, using a 1 1/2" curling iron at home.

Another simple style:

4) Makeup: use a good eyeshadow primer and face primer. A light or sheer coverage foundation will be best suited to my skin, or a BB cream, set with loose powder. Contour and highlighting is essential for a glamorous and picture-perfect look. False lashes is a must! Go for a long-lasting lipstick preferably, or walk with your lippie in your purse to touch up after eating and drinking. Set your face with a setting spray to prevent oilyness and your makeup from moving. Practise doing your makeupYou don't need to go all out with makeup, less is more! Just look at Promise's simple, beautiful look:

PRETTY IN PINK
You don't want to look like this:

5) Choose the right accessories for your dress. If the dress is decorated and bold, skip flashy jewelry, especially necklaces. If I'm wearing fancy earrings, I'd skip wearing a necklace. Less is more here too. Let your good looks and pretty dress do the work for you!

6) Shoes: no need to go and buy any special shoes if your dress is long enough so they don't even show. If wearing a short dress, shoes are very important and this is your chance to make a statement with them legs! You don't have to stay conventional and wear heels. Stick to your personal style and if you prefer wedge sneakers or Chuck Taylor's, go with that :) Oh and make sure they're comfortable to last you the night. I hate to see girls taking off their shoes and dancing/walking around barefoot.

7) Clutch - must include cell phone, money/debit card, camera, lipstick, blotting sheets and superglue; never know when something could do terribly wrong!

TRINI GIRLS: do you still have your prom dress hanging in a corner of your closet or put away, only having been used once? Check out The Cinderella Project and donate your dress to make a girl's dreams come true!

Hauling and Pink nails

So I went to Pennywise and got more stuff for my hair :/

Duck bill clips for sectioning hair when styling. Next time I will buy the plastic grabber clips too.

Spray bottle for DIY concoctions

A tub of bleach since one packet was not enough

John Frieda Frizz-Ease Heat Protectant Spray. I picked this up at a pharmacy since I totally forgot to get a Tresemme spray at Pennywise, and the pharmacy didn't have Tresemme.

Plastic bowl and tinting brush

My sister picked this up. Her hair is currently an auburn-red shade from using Garnier Nutrisse Ultra Color in Light Intense Auburn, on her naturally black hair. The colour didn't come out as intense or light as she wanted to so she got this Softsheen Carson Dark and Lovely box dye in Vivacious Red. Unfortunately, this dye lies! Her hair did not come out a bright red like shown (and it's supposed to work on dark hair) - it basically remained a dark auburn colour!! What a waste.

Then at Wonderful World, I picked this up:

You know, I've never worn false eyelashes before! Mascara usually does the trick for me, since I have a relatively good amount of lashes which are long, but I really wanted to see how I would look with falsies and especially for more special occasions! These Red Cherry #217 ones looked more natural, and I liked how it got a little longer and flared towards the outer corners. The Mini-Gloo is also by Red Cherry, and I chose the dark one over clear, to match my black eyeliner. The lashes were $18 and the glue was $10. I'm so excited to wear it!

On my nails this week: Jordana polishes in Pink Flare and Pink Romance, topped off with Sinful Colors Pink Chloe. I just love Pink Chloe to add that beautiful golden shimmer.

Pic is less vibrant than reality since I took it with my phone. I really need to buy top coat. The one I have got all thick and gooey and made my nails smudge :/

Avon AdvanceTechniques Purifying Shampoo & DIY Conditioner

When my hair doesn't get washed for a 3-4 and starts to get oily, that's when things get icky. Hair is prone to build up if you use a lot of hair products or a shampoo that leaves residue behind. Build-up not only is unpleasant, but it makes your hair look flat instead of bouncy and voluminous, and leaves a layer of grime on your scalp! Your hair is also more susceptible to getting oily faster after washing.

I use these solutions for getting rid of buildup. I use a treatment about once a month!

1. Apple Cider Vinegar hair rinse
2. Avon Advance Techniques Purifying Treatment Shampoo

When I bought the Avon purifying shampoo for about $30 I was the happiest girl in the world. The stuff is really amazing and it was cheap. It is my holy grail clarifying shampoo but unfortunately the store I bought it from closed down and I'm not sure where to find this product again, without ordering from an Avon sales representative. It is drying because it does strip your hair and scalp of all product/residue, so I follow up with a deep conditioner to restore moisture. The drying/stripping effect is also why I use it once a month. And it feels really good when it's on my scalp - very tingly and refreshing!

My holy grail

Apple Cider Vinegar is a wonderful, natural product for your hair and is readily available and relatively inexpensive. Mix one part vinegar with one part water. You don't need much - just enough to soak your head, focusing on the scalp. Apple Cider Vinegar that contains 'the mother' has lots of nutrients that will make your hair nourished and shiny, and may even promote hair growth. Regular vinegar can be used but since it does not contain the mother, it won't be as conditioning, but it will still remove build-up and add shine.
